TFBF - Good Ole Jeffery Davis
God fucking yes Tumblr needed this.
Reblogging everytime this is on my dash.
This music may not be appealing to many of the kids around our scene today, but this is one of the bands that helped to take our local scene and unify it. This band along with Collapse the Memory, My Doppelganger’s Casket, and Death of Skepsis . Almost everyone went to shows to have fun and hang out with great people all while listening to some pretty sweet locals bands. The kids these days really have no clue what it’s like to be part of something as great as that was. I know almost all of the kids that use to go to these shows. Most of use are still friends or share mutual friends to this day.
Now our scene is fucking dead. There are really only about three or four bands I even care about locally. Everyone wants to shove what they think should be the only existing music in our scene down everyone else’s throats. I know the bands I mentioned earlier are all metal bands, but they were all very different styles. I remember shows that had metal, acoustic, and hardcore all on one bill. Now everything is fucking screamo. Sorry guys, but I got over that shit when I was fifteen.
Said it pretty much all right there,Tim. I think the only thing I disagree is that now everything is screamo, there you are wrong. You forgot deathcore.
Also there are no screamo bands in Lafayette, there is still plenty of diversity around but no one is really doing anything at the moment. I would love to keep having/booking shows like that, I’ve always hated shows that were strictly one genre. I always felt like an outsider during the fight days simply because I wasn’t really into that style (granted they were definitely one of the best I saw doing that). At that exact same time there was a small punk scene that I enjoyed much more but hardly got to see because they generally played 18+ shows because all of the kids were into the metal thing and would leave if any other kind of band played, though I can’t say I’m a saint, there have definitely been times where I stepped out while bands I wasn’t into were playing. Not saying everyone was like that but it just didn’t feel that unified. I don’t really know where I’m going with this, I just feel like we could get Lafayette’s scene back up if we tried hard enough, things weren’t really that much different back then.
If I might chime in on this. I’m not going to argue anyone else’s points. But from experience, you can’t have a thriving music scene unless the kids that go to shows and the bands playing said shows take pride in the area that they are playing. Bands with egos are just as poisonous to a music scene as close minded kids. Once you stop trying to compete with other bands for local cool points, support your friends and their music (even if it’s not your thing), and show some love to the kids that are actually supporting your band and not bailing after you play, or trying to get your dick wet, and fucking talk to the kids at your shows, then youre taking a step forward towards a solid underground scene. People can say what they want about TFBF. But those dudes always supported us, we’re always friendly, and Tyler would talk to any kid at any show. And the kids and other bands feed off of that attitude. But scenes die and rise and die again. It happens. And I will always blame the bands and not the kids.
